First Lemonade Stand

LT has been wanting to have a lemonade for weeks and talks about it everyday.

Today was the big day and, with a little (okay, a lot) of help from his Grandma and Papa and his mom, his first business venture can be considered a success.

LT insisted on charging just 10 cents a cup.

Unfortunately there are reports that the SEC is looking into some accounting irregularities in the business. Apparently his largest investor (Papa) also financed a significant portion of his sales which he still considered revenue.

Birthday Photo

Kari posted this photo on Facebook with the caption, "not a bad way to spend a 5th.bday!" but somehow the privacy settings on the picture got set such that no one else could see it. We realized it this morning while looking at the photos below from the boys date with the Medina girls at Lakeside last night. The bday photo showed up right after them for Kari but not for me. So anyway, I thought it was a cute picture and wanted to post it here so it eventually ends up in the book. And yes, I'll admit to being a little proud of seeing LT with golf gear and wearing a lacrosse shirt.

LT's 5th Birthday

LT had two requests for his birthday party this year. First, he wanted just a small group of his friends and  he only wanted to invite boys this year. And second, he wanted to have "an interior decorating party." Setting aside any potential commentary on how we keep our home, an interior decorating party was somewhat problematic because none of his boy buddies are as into art or decorating as he is.

Luckily Kari came to the rescue and came up with a compromise party idea that worked for everyone involved - a space party that included lots of arts and crafts.

And I must say that she really outdid herself this time and put together an incredible and super creative party. The boys had tons of fun panting planets, throwing paint covered koosh balls to make a galaxy, wearing their homemade jet packs, eating star and planet themed cake pops, doing a meteor shower treasure hunt, and smashing up the star shaped piƱata.

Our garden

A few years ago I decided to start growing a few things in pots in our tiny yard.  Last year we expanded to carrots, beets, peas, spinach, tomatoes, basil and many other herbs.  Our yard is really not sunny enough, nor big enough to grow things well.  Last summer we built raised beds in our neighbors yard, but she considered moving and I figured it was time we had our own space to experiment growing other foods.  I found a plot at a community garden not far from our house and the boys have been ecstatic about watering, planting and taking care of our new garden.  I am not sure we are having the best luck growing, but it has really been a lot of fun!  Because its a community garden, we have several work days where the whole group takes care of the garden.  I brought LT on the first work day and he and his buddy Milo were busy shoveling compost into wheel barrows!

Field Day

I am a little late getting around to posting these pictures from LTs "big school" field day. It was by far the best field day I have been to, extremely organized with activities that were age appropriate for all kids.  Above the kids put on fins, goggles and grabbed a fishing net.  They had to run and then fill up their net with fish and run back.

 Lacrosse, which Adler loved!
Frisbees thrown at a target.  Unfortunately, even though this was LTs field day, most of the pictures are of Adler because when it was LT's turn, I was chasing Adler, or keeping him from bothering other participants.
A hat race was a big hit.  Hats were scattered in a field and the kids had to run, grab a hat, put it on and run back to place it in their hula hoop.  They repeated until all the hats were gone.

There was also a bug catch, soccer, fox tails a suitcase race and many other fun activities!

Drivin Jeeps

Zack invited us over a few weeks ago for a playdate.  They have two ride on jeeps and a ride on front loader in their huge backyard!  The boys cruised around helping "emergency situations".
 Even Adler could drive these!
 Brothers.
 Zack.
There was an occasional crash, but for the most part they were really safe drivers.

Diaper rash cream

For the most part I can take a shower quickly without the boys getting in too much trouble.  Today was an exception.  LT came up calmly and explained that Adler was putting sunscreen on Bowen because he was getting burned.  My reaction, "WHAT?, REALLY!" and I jumped out of the shower, grabbed a towel and ran downstairs to find this.  Honestly, it was hilarious.  Poor Bowen wasn't covered in sunscreen, but diaper rash cream and the whole toy doctor kit was out.  After Adler went to the hospital last Sunday, the boys have been playing a lot of "doctor".  He was checking Bowen out and sincerely wanted to fix him but wasn't sure how, so he found the cream.  I called Brian who was working in the basement to come up and we couldn't help but laugh.  Poor Bowen got his first shower in more than 4 years and still the cream wouldn't come off.

White Fence Farm

LTs 5th birthday was yesterday.  I am still in shock that we have a 5 year old!  We had a fun morning of playing mini golf, followed by a yummy lunch at Tocabe (LTs request) and all 3 of us napped (very rare these days).  My hairdresser talks about a place not far from us called White Fence Farm.  I randomly decided to look it up yesterday and thought it looked like a fun place to celebrate your birthday, if you are turning 5.  I called Papa and Grandma at the last minute to meet us (Brian plays golf on Tuesdays and was unable to join us).  On the drive to the farm both boys were complaining about how long the drive was (15 minutes and they rarely complain in the car, strange).  LT was upset that he didn't get to choose where we ate.  I, as best I could, explained that sometimes you don't even know whats out there until someone shows you.  I told him that this would be a really fun place if he would give it a try (never being there myself, I was slightly worried, but the website made it look like paradise for kids).  Upon arrival, I knew it would be a hit. The boys bolted out of the car to the playground.  It is set next to a little stream and has a magical tree house.  Honestly, the boys would have been fine with these two things, but the fun only continued to grow exponentially.
On the property (which is huge), are old tractors which were really  fun for LT to play on.
There is a petting zoo with goats, cows (and a baby cow just 3 weeks old!), and sheep
We had to wait a little bit for our table to be ready and so we played outside.  Inside is a really old fashioned restaurant with fried chicken, pickled beets, cottage cheese, coleslaw and the most delicious corn fritters.  The waitresses sang happy birthday to LT with sparklers and brought over a cake.  They also brought each boy a wooden coin to choose a treasure out of a treasure box and a coupon for a free ride on the horse drawn carriage!
 LT proud after his ride!

I love this picture of LT and grandma on the carriage ride.
There was a duck pond and the boys fed the ducks.
The magical tree house!  After 3 hours at the farm, we still hadn't seen everything there was to see.  This means we will definitely go back at some point and this time bring daddy!
