Week 1-Social Distancing, homeschooling, surviving

When I look at the pictures I took of our first week, I'd say it was successful and even fun.  We are so grateful that we have the privlage to be home, with a backyard and toys and materials and food and health and so much more.  Its an adjustment for everyone.  Facetimeing friends and family isn't the same as in person visits, but its better than nothing and for that we feel grateful for the technology we have.  Going to the parks and not playing on playgrounds isn't as fun, but again, we have found ways to play outside and be outside as a family while still distancing ourselves from others.  We did a license plate scavenger hunt one day (B had to find all the letters of the alphabet on license plates) and today we collected data on how many cars were each color (and then the big guys graphed that data).  We have had family meals, 3 times a day.  Art time with Mo Willems everyday after lunch.  And so much more in addition to the pictures below.  As things change, probably getting worse, I am sure the anxiety and stress will begin to weigh down a bit more, but for today, we are grateful and doing OK.
Before isolation, I was teaching a little preschool science class and B has gotten very into science.  This was our first experiment, just mixing.
We made leprachaun traps out of junk.

I have given B a bag of activities each day based on the scholastic book theme of the day.  He watches the books and little science video and then has a bag he can complete through the day.

Adler's assignment was to make creative food for lunch.  These were faces.
Legos, trains, magnatiles are a must in our house.

Science experiment 2, help the frozen dinosaurs escape.

Science experiment 3, what color is hiding under the dinos?

And last night after dinner, I laid out this large piece of paper and the whole family doodled for nearly an hour.  Our lives before never allowed time for this and I am embracing it.

Feels like a lifetime ago

2 weeks ago we celebrated my youngest nephew's 3rd birthday.  That feels like a very long time ago at this point in where the world is.  I am so glad we had that chance to all be together.

End of Ski Lessons

B ended his ski lessons this year with the "most improved" award.  He really did come a long way, but mostly because of Brian's help in teaching and schlepping him up there day after day.  Last weekend he skied Thursday with me, Friday with ski lessons and on Saturday he wanted to do "Kaboom" (a black that his brothers have talked about).  We convinced him that "lower kaboom" was more suited for him and got him on a new lift.  He followed like a little duckling behind LT and got down the whole, long run with only one small crash.  I'd say it was a successful season.  I'm not sure he feels the same way.  He asked me if winter was almost over so he could be done skiing forever.

Science

I started teaching a preschool science class and so B has been my little experiment tester.
