The big hunt

After brunch on Sunday, my aunt and cousin hid some eggs and other easter surprises in their huge yard/field. Adler ran straight to my aunts sand box, but LT was enthusiastic about the egg hunt. He ran all over eagerly searching.

Luckily there were a few items to be found in the sandbox and on the swings.
Adler was super excited about the things LT found for him.

Easter Morning

My mom and aunt woke up early to go to church Easter morning and LT sat straight up when he heard the door open and announced that the Easter bunny was leaving! That was the end of our sleep for the night, but the beginning of our Easter day adventures! The boys uncovered their easter baskets quickly and immediately wanted to eat all the treats. We had a few before the family brunch.
My grandfather likes to take any of his family to a huge brunch at a local hotel. This is a tradition that has gone on for many years, but unfortunately our family rarely makes it back. This year there were 37 of us! This is just my grandparents, their children, their grandchildren and great grandchildren. Our boys are the youngest kids by far, but they fit right in. Immediately upon entering the hotel was the easter bunny, just waiting to give out more candy and take pictures. I thought Adler might be afraid, but he walked right over and wanted his picture taken.
The brunch can be long, but because of our huge group, we were able to get a really great semi private room.
We brought some trains for entertainment.
My grandfather (middle), his brother, and my grandmother. My grandfather will be 90 this summer!

Adler loved all the desserts and juice on this trip. Mr. Sweettooth.
Mostly the boys played with their trains under the white table cloth.
I had to take one of them "dressed up". For most of you this probably isn't dressing up, but for the Campbell's its pretty good.

Boston Children's Museum

I took the boys back East this past weekend for Easter. My grandparents live in a small town a little ways outside of Boston, which is where we spent most of our time. However, the weather was cold and we had an extra day, we thought we would go on an adventure and head to Boston to the Childrens Museum (recommended by a friend). We drove most of the way, but parked in a suburb and took the train in. This was a huge hit for both boys!
The Children's Museum was more than I ever envisioned! It was a magical playworld for kids and adults alike. More than 4 stories of room after room of wonderful things to explore, touch, feel, manipulate, climb on. I had no idea how much we were missing with the museum in Denver.
The boys spent the majority of the time in a room full of various ball ramps.
This was some piping with magnets on the back. You could manipulate them to build your own tunnel for the balls.
It took some work, but we eventually managed to get them out of the balls and ramps to see what else there was. LT saw a sign for a Kindergarten room and immediately wanted to check it out! I remember being very excited about Kindergarten and I see the same enthusiasm in LT right now as he anticipates that big leap as a child.
The Kindergarten room turned out to be many of the same things we have at our house and that our children's museum in Denver offers, so we didn't stay long. We turned a corner and there was a huge room full of water and sand! There were all kinds of science experiments in the water and sand.
Adler managed to completely soak his shirt despite having a waterproof jacket on!

The museum is set right on the Charles river. Magnificent windows cover one side of the museum and the views are incredible. The weather was cold and we didn't spend a lot of time outside, but these windows allowed us (or at least me) to enjoy Boston without being in the cold.

The final thing we did at the museum was climb on this four story structure. It was incredible, webbing edged the entire thing and carpeted sail like ramps and bumps allowed the kids to climb up as high as they wanted. We didn't even cover 1/2 of the museum sadly, but the exhibits we did see were incredible.

Water, mud and crud

We had a play date with my good friend's kids last week. It was a sunny afternoon and they have a huge yard. The four kids played outside for several hours in mud and water.
Phoenix came up with the idea of filling pots with dirt and adding water. None of the boys argued with the brilliant idea and soon enough everyone was covered in mud and happy!

Ads tried out their little Strider bike.

By the end of the play date, we were down to just a diaper and underwear for the drive home!

Adler and Jonah

We watched our good friend's kids last weekend for a short time. Isaac and Jonah are the same ages as our boys (within a few weeks) and they all get along really well. As I said in an earlier post, its fun to see Adler finally interacting and playing with his friends. He and Jonah did a lot of garbage truck/recycling play.

In the middle of the play Adler decided to read Jonah a book about "carrots".

boys will be boys

We had a boys night recently so, of course, right after dinner we headed out to Tennyson Street to get some ice cream. I managed to talk the boys into standing together long enough to snap a the photo above with my phone. They really wanted to stand on the stump together which took a while to coordinate.

Unfortunately for us, the the Bookery Nook was closed by the time we got there. We quickly adjusted our plans and headed down the street to Parisi but, despite the summer like weather in March, they hadn't started serving ice cream yet. We salvaged our trip with some little chocolate treats from Parisi.

On the way home we stopped and played in the church parking lot. The boys found a trash bag and filled it with leaves and other junk. Once the bag was full, Adler insisted on "dumpstering" the bag himself. Who knew trash could be so fun? I'll have to figure out how to channel that energy into cleaning up our own yard.

Ads and Shane

LT has always played really well with Phoebe. They play girlie things and then switch and entertain themselves in a wild and more boylike play. Last week we went over to their house and LT and Phoebe had a great time as usual. However, this was the first time that the little brothers (Shane is Phoebe's little brother) were actually playing together. Soon after walking up to their house, the two little ones went off and were chatting in a corner together. We went in the backyard and they dug in the sand together. I guess Adler is beginning to enter the social stage!

screen time

Over the last couple months the boys have shown (or maybe we've just finally allowed) a newfound love of technology - especially games and videos. LT loves to play Angry Birds and Alder's a big fan of watching youtube videos of trash trucks. And here are a few pictures of them doing exactly that.

Forbidden fruit

Deep in concentration.

This is serious stuff.

Adler occasionally looked up to see what I was doing with the camera.

When I tried to get both boys to look at me for a photo, they got annoyed with me and complained that they needed to concentrate.

Easter Fun

Last year Baba brought the idea (and materials) to make an Easter bunny cake in Estes Park. Although LT was very sick with a stomach bug, he hasn't forgotten the idea. When I mentioned that Easter was only a week away, he instantly asked if we could make the cake. We made a vanilla bean cake with vanilla frosting (all from joythebaker.com) and accessorized with candy.
Adler, aka sweet tooth, ate more than he decorated with, but he managed to get a few pieces on the cake.
The finished bunny!
While Adler napped, LT and I dyed Easter eggs.
